The powder is separated from the airflow by gravity drop and surface filters, and discharged into a buffer hopper, which meters the powder onto the screen deck of the sieve. Here, larger powders and agglomerates are separated from smaller particles; the smaller particles pass through the screen and screen outlet into a collection container (assisted by an ultrasonic generator that enhances powder flow), making them immediately available for reuse. Typical metal powders include Inconel, Stainless Steel, Cobalt Chrome. Using a vacuum system, the powder is extracted, conveyed to a vacuum receiver, and the powder is discharged into a sieve, which then discharges the metal powder into a barrel in a closed, inert environment.
